To enhance student potential MSHS-SSLG spearheads leadership training

To hone the skills of student leaders from various educational institutions, Malvar Senior High School-Supreme Secondary Learner Government (MSHS-SSLG) organized a training program for them at the New Conference Hall of Malvar Municipal Building, Feb. 3.

 

The event, with 136 participants, united student leaders from Malvar School of Arts and Trade, Luta Sur National High School, San Isidro National High School, San Isidro Malvar Senior High School, Don Julio Leviste Memorial National High School, and Santiago National High School.

 

Discussing the program’s purpose, Ms. Jenny Viñas, MSHS-SSLG Adviser, explained that it was an activity meant to capacitate student leaders’ personal and professional growth through a series of talks from resource speakers who are also leaders and different team building exercises that encouraged camaraderie among the participants. 

 

The seminar which is themed "Malvareknows: Unleashing Potential in Malvar Student Leaders" focus on the following topics: “Developing Resilience in Leadership” by Mr. Clark Jhonel B. Sarmiento, MSHS-SSLG President; “Emotional Intelligence in Leadership” by Hon. Councilor Jeric M. Platon, Sangguniang Bayan Member of Malvar; and “Importance of Communication in Leadership” by Ms. Maria Anna Elizabeth L. Lado-ing, District Rotaract Chair, Rotary International District 3820.

 

During the seminar, the speakers shared some notable insights regarding their take on the topics assigned to them.

 

Mr. Sarmiento stressed the importance of learning from failures and developing resilience in a leader’s character.

 

“Always remember that failure is a part of success. Lahat tayo nagkakamali; lahat tayo ay may pagsubok na pinahirapan talaga tayo,” he said.

 

Meanwhile, the significance of communication in leadership was highlighted by Ms. Lado-ing.

 

“Leadership without communication is like traveling without direction,” she pointed out.

 

Hon. Platon explained why emotional intelligence is necessary in leadership.

 

 “Understanding and managing emotions can help a leader build strong relationships and make sound decisions,” he said.

 

The program concluded with the awarding of certificates to the participants.
