As laid down by the General Parent-Teacher Association of Malvar Senior High School before the school opening in August, students are expected to wear their school uniforms by November.
Although the Department of Education (DepEd) through Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte publicly announced that students would not be mandated to wear school uniforms for the school year 2022-2023, in line with DepEd Order No. 065, s. 2010.
However, the PTA appealed to the school regarding this matter through a resolution signed by officers and board members. This resolution was drafted and approved after a petition signed by a majority of parents was submitted.
"Nag-agree ang mga magulang na ang mga bata ay naka-uniform at doon tayo magbabatay sa desisyon nila,” Mrs. Raquel Cruz, the Prefect of Discipline said.
They believed that having a prescribed dress code would be beneficial because it would be a source of identification for the students and the institution. They also believed that it would help parents save money for buying clothes that students have to wear for five days.
As for the Office of the Prefect of Discipline, this is a way of instilling discipline in students since they will be limited in wearing improper attire inside the campus.
“Ipinakita namin ang mga larawan ng mga dapat at hindi dapat na suot ng mga bata sa loob ng paaralan—'yung mga sexy like crop top, ‘yung sira-sirang maong, ‘yung masyadong maikling kasuotan tulad ng shorts, at saka sa ating mga kalalakihan, bawal ‘yung mga sando," Mrs. Cruz enumerated types of clothes that will not be acceptable as school attire.
Mrs. Cruz also stressed that violators would be reprimanded.
"Ang paaralan ay may rules and regulations. May student handbook na naipaliwanag during parents’ orientation na nagsasaad ng mga bawal. ‘Pag isa o dalawa (paglabag), verbal warning. ‘Pag higit na sa dalawa o paulit-ulit na, ipapatawag na natin ang nga magulang. Doon tayo magkakaroon ng agreement na hindi na muling uulit. Kapag naulit muli, dito na papasok ang tinatawag nating disciplinary action or suspension,” she said.
The students currently wear casual clothes while waiting for the complete delivery of uniforms. Those who wear improper school attire are held accountable for their actions.
