With high hopes but fewer expectations
Filled with hope and courage to once again join a face-to-face competition, the El Calibre team welcomed the opportunity to be part of the District Schools Press Conference on May 11 to represent Malvar Senior High School and just gain experience in Journalism.
“The time is limited but let us make the most out of it. Let us just do our best,” Mrs. Leidelen M. Telegrapo, the team’s coach said to encourage the journalists.
With only a day to prepare, El Calibre staffers worked together with Mrs. Telegrapo to finalize their entries for the competition.
Their efforts paid off because the team won both in the secondary-level individual and group competitions they participated. They competed against five other secondary schools in the district.
For individual competition, Charlene De Vera won 1st place in the Sports Writing Filipino category for the secondary level.
For group competition Filipino category at the secondary level, Malvar SHS received awards for Best Anchor, Best in Script Writing, and Radio Production Overall Winner.
The radio broadcasting team consisted of Mark Bryan Sagulo, Dixie Marie Sidmanao, Angel Ilagan, Keana Villanueva, and Trisha Joyce Araneta.
Other team members who competed were Rinalyn Cueto for Column Writing English, Kim Nicole Dimaunahan for Editorial Writing English, Jansen Macalintal for Feature Writing Filipino, and Lorie Mae Urgel for Editorial Cartooning Filipino.
The team’s victory made them qualify for the Congressional District Schools Press Conference to be held in Laurel, Batangas on May 13.
