To enhance the safety and preparedness of the local community, the Bureau of Fire Protection-Malvar conducted a comprehensive safety drill and first aid training event at Malvar Senior High School, Aug. 25.
This initiative was organized by Malvar SHS School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (SDRRM) team, led by its coordinator, Mr. John Christian Sabaulan.
During the program, Mrs. Rosalie L. Liwanag, Principal II, delivered a welcome address to the attendees, emphasizing the significance of preparedness in the face of emergencies and the school’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its students and staff.
Meanwhile, Kate Manuel, the President of Malvar SHS SDRRM, provided a comprehensive program overview. She stressed the significance of mastering essential skills like first aid and disaster response, preparing students to become responsible and capable citizens.
The training proper followed, conducted by the team from the BFP-Malvar. It covered a wide range of topics essential for handling emergencies effectively. Participants learned vital skills such as basic first aid, fire safety protocols, evacuation procedures, and disaster response strategies.
The highlight of the event was the inclusion of an actual firefighting activity, giving students a unique opportunity to apply what they learned in a controlled and supervised environment. This hands-on experience left an indelible impression and enhanced their confidence in dealing with fire-related emergencies.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Sabaulan expressed his gratitude to all participants, trainers, and organizers for their unwavering commitment to safety. He emphasized that this training marked a significant step towards making the school and the community a safer place.
